Birthday presents

In honor of my husband’s service to his country, I donated our Dodge van to Vehicles for Vets, which provides vehicles and other supportive services to disabled veterans.  I know he would like that, since he was a disabled veteran, too. I just watched the tow truck take it out of our driveway, and stared until I couldn’t see it anymore. We had wonderful trips to all kinds of interesting and fun places together in that van. I will always carry those memories in my heart.  Also in honor of his birthday, which is tomorrow, I’ve posted his favorite prayer, below.  Known as the St. Francis prayer, it’s just beautiful and comforting. It speaks to the best in human nature.

“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.”
